"Here in this body are the sacred rivers: here are the sun and moon as well as all the pilgrimage places... I have not encountered another temple as blissful as my own body." Saraha
The Cosmic Tree, with its roots deep in the earth and its branches outstretched to cradle the heavens, symbolizes the interconnectedness of all life. I first encountered the Cosmic Tree as a towering 700-year old Ceiba tree at the Mayan ruins of Caracol in Belize. The Cosmic Tree is known to the Maya as Yaxché, the Tree of Life. I came away from Caracol with a new appreciation of our place in the continuing cycle of life and a desire to help other people renew their communion with the Earth.
I was fascinated by essential oils already, and because my skin is sensitive to the irritants in mainstream cosmetics, I was drawn to creating alternatives for myself and others using cosmetic grade minerals and botanicals. Creating a range of mineral cosmetic shades that works for diverse skin tones involved a year of experimenting with iron oxides and micas. In 2010 , I went back to school for a few months to earn a diploma in makeup artistry and design, partly for the opportunity to match our shades to as many people's skin tones as possible and partly because I wanted our line to be responsive to the needs of makeup artists.
Since then, I have been delighted to see more and more naturally derived emulsifiers, surfactants and preservatives coming into the marketplace and am pleased to have been able to formulate a complete line of botanically based skin, body and hair care products.
